Skeletor as a chick...

Last assignment was to redesign Skeletor in any way you wished, I opted for a female version. Panthor was a bit of a pain and I noticed his "wolverine" claws when I was done (fixing them in the inks), but all in all it was really fun to recreate my childhood.

Sequential stuff

A sequential piece for Tom's class. The assignment was a couple breaking up in a doorway and this was my take. I haven't done a actual page in quite a while so I'm a bit rusty, but I thought it turned out decent.

New sketches

Some pieces I did for my buddy Tom Nguyen's online art class (http://artsamurai.net/). The first assignment was for a dynamic, tentacled monster. The second was for some type of flying superhero female. These were fun to do and it was nice to be motivated by a classroom situation again.

Magik

A piece I was working on for fun a little while ago and just finally got around to finishing it. This is more where my work has been going as of late. I'm kind of sick of doing super tight pencils nowadays and have opted for a softer lead and more of charcoal-y approach (I did learn something in art school!). The most fun I had drawing was during my figure drawing classes, tons of charcoal and erasing out areas. Not sure how the hell you ink it though...

Big ass wall art!

So a friend of mine just took over the local comic book store and he wanted some big pieces of art to display in the store. I ended up working on 32x40 matte board, which was a bit difficult to keep proportions at first, but didn't take long to get comfortable with. I drew the Hulk first, realizing when I was almost finished I should have started with a green colored matte so I did a grey one for Batman. My friend plans on airbrushing them, but my part is done.

Limited Edition comic signing sketches

The result of laying on my back for a month trying to draw. I unfortunately had to skip the signing this time around as my back is in sad shape and I can't sit upright or hunch over a drawing table for any extended period of time. I am happy with the way they turned out and hopefully the people who commissioned them are too. My personal faves are the top two, The White Rabbit and Wonder Woman. The rest are below....

TMNT

Lately everyone I know has been posting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle drawings so I thought I would do one. I don't think I've actually drawn them for over twenty years, if ever. Best part was I finished it in a day, which is amazing because I usually take forever.

Flash commission

So this one was for Andy. It took forever, for no apparent reason other than I'm lazy and maybe cause it was the first double page spread I've ever done. You think staring at one blank 11x17 page is intimidating, try two. I almost tore it apart and started over multiple times, but pulled it out of a nosedive at the end and now I'm somewhat happy with it.

Oh and it's all the Flashes as Blue Lanterns, with a little redesigning on Jay Garricks costume.

More sketches....

I'm happy with most of them. Some were a little rushed because I had people waiting, but I think they turned out decent. I'm still amazed when someone wants me to draw on a blank comic cover, I don't want to ruin their book :)

Limited Edition Comics signing......two years later.

So Wednesday I drove down with Tom Nguyen and Keith Champagne for their signing at Limited Edition Comics in Iowa. I usually go into these things with the mindset that I'm basically the assistant to all these guys and I'm just there to hang out and be a gopher or whatever. So it is always surprising and nice when people want sketches from me too. I spent the day drawing pretty much non stop.

The guys at the comic store are great. Rob, the owner, is always super nice and makes you feel really welcome and his customers made me feel like a pro. Going to Limited Edition is much more fun than the local cons where you're just another random table that people walk by.

Thanks again to Rob and everybody at LE Comics, you guys are freakin awesome!

So here's some pics of sketches and me with the guys....

Spring Con....

Well Spring Con is over. I didn't make a whole lot of money, but most people I talked to agreed that people weren't buying much. So here is some of the stuff I did for people, I apologize for the crappy phone pics. I got to do my first blank cover, which was a little intimidating. Tom ended up inking it, so above is the before and after. My fave is "Dream Girl" (the cheesecake-y pinup), apparently she is a member of the Legion. Today someone wanted a Macho Man head sketch which I ended up enjoying quite a bit. Although I didn't sell that much it was still fun and I got to talk to a few cool people. All in all not bad, but I don't think I'll do another con until I have a book out....

Spring Con print!

Here we have one of the most awesome pieces I've had the privilege or working on! The mighty Pat Gleason agreed to collaborate with my lowly self on this fine piece. At first we were going to do some DC characters and then maybe Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow, but I wanted to see Pat draw a Marvel character. I drew Havok and Pat drew Phoenix and he inked the piece as well. It came out much better than I expected and is already framed and hanging on my wall. So if you want a copy, stop by my table this weekend and pick yours up!

Natu

I forgot to put this up a couple months ago. Pat did a variant cover for GLC #53 and as usual I was around when he was drawing it. He of course knows my love for Natu and snuck in my intials in her ear. So if you look closely you can see "JE", neat huh?

Fixed

I finally went back and sized down all the ginormous pic files. So now you can click on a pic and not just see a close up of Deadpool's eyeball or something.

Preview

So here's a little preview of something that may be published next year. I'm not going to say much about it, as it's still in it's infancy, but it's my own story I'll be writing and penciling. I do need a solid inker and colorist, so if you know any one who wants to work for Image style payment, let me know.

Bored at Valleyfair...

l
a

There tends to be a lot of down time when doing Caricatures at the park (though lately it has been busy). So here are some examples of crap I drew to pass the time. Most of it is stiff and boring, simply because I had no creative energy, but some of it is kinda fun. I do enjoy going to town with the airbrush on this stuff.

The Havok is my little re-design of his old black and white costume, which I love. I threw in a little of the new costume in there, as the lines down his legs and arms would light up blue when he powers up. My favorite, of course, is the Soranik Natu. There are more of these, but they're so static and lifeless I couldn't bring myself to post them.

Maybe I'll get back to drawing actual comic pages some time soon....
